Breast implant removal

Breast implant removal, also known as explant surgery, is a procedure to take out breast implants, with or without replacing them. At Birmingham Breast Clinic, we understand that deciding to have your implants removed is a personal and important decision. Whether it’s due to health concerns, implant complications, or simply a change in personal preference, we’re here to provide expert advice and compassionate care throughout the entire process.

Why might you consider breast implant removal?

There are many reasons why you might choose to have your implants removed. It could be about changing your appearance or addressing health concerns. Some common reasons include:

  • Wanting to change the size of your breasts or return to a natural look.
  • Problems with the implants, like rupture or leakage.
  • Discomfort from capsular contracture, which happens when scar tissue tightens around the implant.
  • Concerns about implant safety, such as Breast Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL).
  • Symptoms often called “breast implant illness,” like fatigue or unexplained pain.

We offer personalised consultations to explore your concerns and help you make the choice that’s right for your health and well-being.nd well-being.

What happens during breast implant removal?

Breast implant removal surgery is done under general anaesthesia and usually takes one to two hours. During the surgery:

  • The surgeon carefully removes your implants.
  • If there’s any scar tissue around the implants, especially from capsular contracture, it may also be removed.
  • You might choose to combine the procedure with a breast lift to improve the shape and contour of your breasts after the implants are removed.

Everything will be discussed with you during your consultation so you feel fully informed about the options available to achieve the results you want
